KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID. — All weekend long, you'll notice extra police presence in North Idaho, trying to deter people from driving under the influence.
The North Idaho DUI Task Force is out this weekend, looking for any impaired drivers out on the road.
Multiple Idaho agencies will be out on the road, solely dedicated to DUI enforcement.
Friday evening, a man totaled his truck, physically he was OK, but he was charged with a DUI.
“He did fail to meet the passing points of all of the field sobriety evaluation. So he was charged with the crime of DUI,” said Deputy Rich Lyons with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Lyons says, the whole point of having the task force out, is to discourage DUI incidents, like the one Friday Evening.
"Having the force out right now, that discourages people from driving under the influence later. So that's why we started earlier…so that people can see us. and know that we're out there," he said.
The North Idaho DUI Task Force will be out all weekend long.
