VILLANOVA, Penn. — The Washington State women's basketball team's NCAA Tournament journey came to an end Saturday afternoon.
The No. 5 seed Cougs fell to No. 12 seed Florida Gulf Coast University 74-63 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Cougs were looking for its first NCAA Tournament win in program history after winning its first Pac-12 Championship in school history just a couple of weeks ago.Â
WSU struggled a bit from the field, shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 28 percent from behind the arc. Their opponent was lights out from the field, as FGCU shot 55.6 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from behind the arc.
Sha Carter led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Tara Wallack was the leading scorer for WSU, scoring 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field. Charlisse Leger-Walker finished the day with only five points and one assist, shooting 2 of 10 from the field and fouling out of the game.
Congratulations on a great season, WSU!
