Three hour SWAT standoff ends peacefully

SPOKANE, Wash. - A three hour standoff with armed suspects in Spokane Valley ended with no injuries and the suspects in custody.

On Tuesday at 1:40 a.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 12100 block of E. Cataldo.

Deputies made contact with the adult male victim who was visiting family at the location.

At one a friend of the family tried to get the victim to fight.

Instead of fighting, the victim left the apartment.

As he was walking through the parking lot, the male and a 17-year-old juvenile from the one, followed.

The unknown male pulled a sawed-off shotgun from his waistband, pointed it at the victim, and fired.

The victim was not hit, and both males fled back into the apartment.

Deputies quickly responded and asked the suspects to exit the apartment.

The suspects refused to exit.

Deputies, knowing that the suspects were armed, cleared three apartments in the immediate area.

The SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team were called to the scene.

A search warrant was obtained, and eventually, both males complied and were taken into custody without injury.

An altered .410 shotgun, matching the one the victim described, and a BB gun were located and seized as evidence.

The unknown male, a 16-year-old juvenile, faces charges of Assault 1st Degree.

The second male suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, currently faces charges of Rendering Criminal Assistance 1st Degree, and was arrested for an active warrant for a parole violation.

Major Crimes Detectives continue to investigate this incident.

Additional charges are expected.
