SPOKANE, Wash. - The world's largest three-on-three basketball tournament isn't far away.
The official Hoopfest countdown from their home page has begun.
While the massive event is still more than 100 days away, registration is open now.
“The guaranteed registration is open now so you know you will get your spot,” said Executive Director Matt Santangelo. “You don't have to worry about any type of change in fees later on which can happen as well.”
So what's new this year at Hoopfest?
You may have noticed, Riverfront Park doesn't look the way it did for Hoopfest 2016. Of course renovations at the park pose some challenges for this massive event. But it also presents organizers with some new opportunities.
“Some of the things have to come out of the park into the core of downtown but I think it's just going to create a tremendous kind of heartbeat in the downtown core,” said Santangelo. “It's in the streets, it's in the city, and we are going to really live up to that this year.”
The most important component of making the world's largest three-on-three basketball tournament a success is the army of volunteers that come back every year.
2017 brings new opportunities for them as well, including incentives and prizes for signing up early.
You can learn more about volunteering or registering your team right now on the Hoopfest website.
