SPOKANE, Wash. - Police arrested a man for a domestic violence charge Wednesday in the Spokane Valley after a young child called 911, stating his mother was beaten up and bleeding.
Deputies responded to a residence near Moen and Sprague in the Valley around 9:30 p.m. The adult male victim was bleeding heavily from her head. There was also blood throughout the residence. Spokane Valley Fire provided medical treatment and she was transported to a local hospital for additional care. The victim's injuries were severe, but not life-threatening.
Major Crimes Detectives were called to investigate.
Deputies learned the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Sonny E. Cannella, fled the scene before police arrived. A perimeter was set up and Deputy Hilton and his K9 partner Bane arrived to search. The pair found a male lying face down in alleyway behind the residence, but they were unsure if it was the suspect. Other deputies arrived to help detain the male, who was then positively identified as Cannella.
A pair of white shoes with blood on them and several other items were collected as evidence.
Cannella said he had been drinking, taken medications, and ingested nicotine oil and was provided medical treatment before being booked into Spokane County Jail for Domestic Violence Assault in the 2nd Degree. He also has an active felony warrant for his arrest in Wisconsin.
The child was not injured and is safe.
