Wildfires cause road closures, evacuations along Highway 2

Evacuation notices lifted for fires...

SPOKANE, Wash. - UPDATE (8:00): All evacuation notices were lifted.

UPDATE (6:02): One structure confirmed as lost. No injuries. It is not believed to be a home. Now estimated at 30 acres.

UPDATE: Laurel Road Fires are estimated at 60 acres. 4 miles east of Deer Park. Ground crew and strike team is on scene. 3 planes are overhead. No structures have been lost. Air support is getting the fire under control.

The Sheriff's office is evacuating people on the east side of Highway 2 near Laurel Road.

The Red Cross is trying to get a shelter set up and will send details on location when available.

Firefighters from the Bissell Fire are currently being demobilized and will be on the road soon to help at the Laurel Fire.

Previous Story:

There are several brush fires burning on SR2 between Apex and Laurel Road in Riverside. Please avoid the area as firefighters respond.

Highway 2 is now fully blocked in both directions. Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Westmoreland Road.

Forced evacuations are occurring. Firemen are still in initial attack mode. They will be there all night, hoping air support will help.
