Car stolen with service dog inside

SPOKANE, Wash. - A service dog went missing in Spokane Wednesday when his owner's car was stolen.  But thanks to the kindness of a stranger, he is back home.

It all started just after 5 a.m. when Jackie Dewey was making a delivery to the north Spokane Walmart.  She left her car idling while she went inside the store.  When she returned, both her car and her service dog Dallas were gone.

Dewey called police and emailed KXLY4 News.

Three hours later, a young man believed to be the car thief walked up to Trish Fleming at the 5 Mile Rosauers.  He handed the dog over to Fleming and told her he thought the dog was lost.

Fleming found Dewey's number on the dog's collar  Now, Dallas is safely back at home. But, Dewey's blue, 2004 Lexus RX 330 is still missing.

Police hope surveillance video from the Walmart will help them locate the thief.
