SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Spokane Valley Sheriff's detectives arrested a woman for soliciting a man to kill her husband.
Martie Soderberg, 39, was arrested on Monday afternoon.
The solicited man contacted deputies on Tuesday, October 11. He told authorities that he knew Soderberg from high school and hadn't talked to her since. They recently reconnected over social media and started talking.
Soderberg met the man for coffee in Spokane Valley. Soderberg told the man that her marriage had turned abusive and "wanted her husband gone." She also told him that she would receive her husband's life insurance pay out if he died and she couldn't leave him for fear of not being able to make it on her own.
Soderberg told the man a few different plans she had to kill her husband. The first detailed the man shooting the husband while they were Trick or Treating with their kids. She also had a plan to shoot the husband while he was at work.
The solicited man reported this meeting to deputies immediately after. The man agreed to work with detectives during future meetings with the woman, including wearing a recording device during conversations.
At later meetings, Soderberg told the man how the weapon could be disposed of and also suggested dates for the murder that would give her a stronger alibi.
On Monday, the man met with Soderberg. She gave him money to purchase a gun. Detectives contacted and arrested the woman.
Soderberg is in the Spokane County Jail on a charge of Criminal Solicitation to commit 1st Degree Murder. She is being held on $1 million bond.
