SPOKANE, Wash. - Riverfront Park's new ice ribbon will soon be open to skaters. In a little more than two weeks, the outdoor feature will hold its grand opening.
The city promises it will be a brand new skating experience for Spokane.
Unlike the old ice palace, there will be no covering at the ice ribbon. Skaters get to be outdoors, and right near the heart of downtown. Designers built the ice ribbon with the hopes of getting more use out of the area of the park in the winter.
There is currently about an inch layer of ice on the path. The city says it needs about two inches before anyone can lace up their skates.
The park says even if you've been skating in the park before, this will be unlike any other experience.
The grand opening for the ice ribbon will be held on Friday, December 8.
