WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Chelan County Prosecutor's Office has determined that the officer involved in the shooting on July 27 at Albertsons in Wenatchee will not be criminally charged.
On July 27, around 10 p.m., Wenatchee Police Officer Albert Gonzalez responded to a report of a person screaming and walking around with a knife in the parking lot of the Albertsons in Wenatchee.
According to the witness who made the report, the suspect, Matthew Folden, was waving the knife around like he was going to stab somebody.
Surveillance video shows Officer Gonzalez yell at Folden three times to yell on the ground. Mr. Folden approached the officer, clutching his knife at chest level, angled towards the officer. Officer Gonzalez fired his weapon. Mr. Folden fell a few front from the patrol car.
Officer Gonzalez then called for backup.
An autopsy revealed that Folden died from three gunshot wounds to the chest. Folden was also found to have had methamphetamine and alcohol in his system.
