Murder suspect had history of domestic violence

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The man wanted for killing his former girlfriend in the parking lot of Kootenai Health Wedesday has a history of domestic violence and violated a no contact order.

Coeur d'Alene Police say Steven Denson shot Kelly Pease; the two used to be in a romantic relationship.

On her Facebook page, Pease wrote about being the victim of domestic violence. In a post Monday, she said "I refuse to perpetuate the cycle of domestic violence by exposing my children to it. I do not abuse... therefore, I will not submit myself to abuse."

Idaho court records show Denson was arrested in January on charges of attempted strangulation, domestic violence battery, theft and malicious injury to property. He was scheduled to enter a plea later this month.

In February, he was arrested again, this time for violating a no contact order. It's not clear in the initial search if Pease was the victim in those cases.

Denson is now on the run. Coeur d'Alene Police released his picture and a picture of his car. He's wanted for first degree murder.
