HOUSTON, TX. — Mariners fans, it’s time to buckle up for this year’s playoff journey.
Coming off one of the biggest wins in franchise history, the Seattle Mariners will take on a familiar opponent in the Houston Astros in the American League Divisional Series round of the 2022 MLB playoffs. On Saturday, the M’s came back down seven runs to beat the Blue Jays in Toronto, allowing them to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
The Mariners haven’t played the Astros since July 31. They played each other 19 times this season, winning the series 12-7.
Cy Young winner Justin Verlander will take the hill for the Astros. Verlander could win it again this year, as he has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Verlander went 18-4 in the regular season, striking out 185 batters and finishing the year with a 1.75 ERA.
Right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert will take the hill for the Mariners.
The first pitch between the two AL West teams is on Tuesday at 12:37 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on TBS, and you can also listen to the game on ESPN radio.
According to ESPN, the Astros have a 68.4 percent chance to win game 1.
