Coeur d'Alene Police say a 91 year-old woman was robbed in her driveway on the 2800 block of 15th Street as she arrived home from a trip to the grocery store.

It's something we do every day and for some of us, over and over; getting in and out of our car. Think about how many times a 91 year-old has done it. Maybe nothing has ever happened, but Sunday something did.

Coeur d'Alene Police are withholding the identity of the victim, as the incident frightened her.

The victim says she was returning home from a shopping trip when out of nowhere a man came and snatched her purse. While she wasn't able to get his license plate number, she did see him drive off in a tan SUV.

Police do not know why this woman was targeted. They began to retrace her steps from Sunday and pulled surveillance video from her stops. At Safeway they noticed a man who fit the description she gave of the robber in the store at the same time. They are interested in speaking with him but say he is not a suspect and he has not been charged with a crime. Detectives canvassed her neighborhood with a photo from the surveillance footage Sunday but no one recognized the man.

On Monday, Kxly4 brought the photo to nearby businesses. A clerk at Cenex recognized the man and said that he had definitely been in his store before but did not know his name or whereabouts.

The incident has shaken the community many seniors call home.

Lake City Center for seniors has held "Lunch and Learn" lectures where safety is addressed. As a result of this robbery, there are plans to hold more in the coming weeks and months.

Rick Currie, the Administrative Director at Lake City Center said, "it all comes down to being aware of your surroundings."

He advises seniors to get errands done during the day when it's still light out and plenty of people are around.

He also says it's a good idea to get familiar with your neighbors.

"You don't have to be friends with them but be aware of them and have a little bit of contact. It goes a long way."
