SPOKANE, Wash. - A domestic violence suspect was killed by Spokane Police officers Tuesday night after he returned to a crime scene and ambushed them.
Police responded to the 2900 block of E. Rowan Ave. in Hillyard around 6 p.m. after 911 dispatchers received the report of a domestic violence incident with a weapon. During the 911 call, dispatchers could hear shots being fired.
When officers arrived at the residence, the suspect had left and officers began processing the scene.
An hour and a half later, two officers remained near the residence in a patrol car when the suspect returned on foot and opened fire on the officers. Both officers returned fire, striking the suspect.
First aid was administered to the suspect who was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries. Neither of the officers were injured in the shooting.
The suspect was reported to be a multiple-time felon known to Spokane law enforcement. His gun was recovered at the scene.
SPD will later release the names of the officers involved in the shooting.
