Bullet hole

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Spokane Valley deputies arrested a man after a bullet was fired into a family's apartment.

Deputies responded to an apartment complex on E. 6th Ave. and S. Farr Road Tuesday night, where a caller said a bullet was fired through her apartment wall.

Deputies arrived at the apartment and located bullet holes in two walls of the apartment. The family of four was uninjured, but shook by the incident.

Deputies then contacted the victim's neighbor, who originally denied any knowledge of a shot being fired from his apartment, according to Spokane Valley Police.

The neighbor, identified as 29-year-old Luis A. Garcia, eventually admitted he was cleaning a friend's pistol, and it fired unexpectedly when he wasn't touching the trigger, deputies said.

Garcia is a convicted felon, meaning his isn't allowed to possess a firearm.

Deputies say Garcia told them his friend later took the handgun and left the area.

In a search of Garcia's apartment, deputies say they found ammunition and other items associated with firearms, but no handgun.

Garcia was booked into Spokane County Jail for first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, four counts of reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm, and making false statements.
