SPOKANE, Wash. — A suspect was taken to the hospital after a victim reportedly shot him in the leg after wrestling over a handgun.
Spokane Valley deputies responded at an apartment complex on E 6th Ave near S Eastern Rd for a report of a possible shooting/robbery on Tuesday around 2:30 a.m.
Deputies saw a woman open the apartment door where the incident was believed to be occurring. She was safely detained and confirmed with deputies that there were two men inside the apartment, and one had been shot.
Deputies then moved to the apartment door and detained a man who was believed to be the victim. Another man was lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his leg and a makeshift tourniquet applied.
Spokane Valley Fire and AMR personnel arrived and transported the man to the hospital for additional care.
Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Preliminary information indicates that the victim is acquaintances with the woman and suspect. The Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office says the suspect attacked, bound, and held the victim at gunpoint.
The victim was later untied and dove for a different pistol in the apartment to protect himself. The suspect then began wrestling with the victim for the handgun, causing the victim to fire a shot, hitting the suspect in the leg.
No names are being released at this time as Major Crimes Detectives continue to investigate. Investigators are still processing the scene and conducting interviews, but believe all involved parties have been contacted and identified.
No one has been charged at this time, but charges are expected as the investigation continues.
