Boater missing on Fernan Lake

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - UPDATE:  On Friday, October 6, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Sonar Team, with the assistance of search dogs, located Bishop in about 5-7 feet of water. Bishop was recovered from the lake bottom. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.

Previous Story:

Just after 5:00 Tuesday morning the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a possible drowning on the east end of Fernan Lake.

The caller said two people were on a ten foot aluminum boat and were transporting gear from the East Fernan Boat Launch to state land on the south side of the lake. Deputies said while making their way across the water, the boat capsized and both people onboard ended up in the water.

The two men who were in the boat when it capsized have been identified as 60-year-old Jesse A. Bishop from Airway Heights and 19-year-old Nathaniel C. Storch.

Storch  made it to shore, but Bishop never did. The KCSO Dive Rescue Team and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to the area and began their search for the missing boater.

Crews are still on scene searching for the missing person.
