GIFFORD, Wash. - UPDATE:The fire is at 100% containment.
The Bissell Fire is forcing people out of their homes in Stevens County. A level three evacuation has been put in place for all who live within a one mile radius of 3987 Bissell Road in Gifford. That means leave now.
The blaze started Sunday and continued through Monday.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources said the fire is 350 acres with no containment. No structures have been lost, but 25 homes are threatened. Additional fire engines, helicopters and heavy air tankers are on scene.
Avista turned off power to the area as a precaution. Residents in the area tell KXLY it has made getting updates on the fire relatively difficult because cell phone service is spotty and they were relying a lot on the internet.
The American Red Cross has set up emergency shelter at Columbia High School, located at 4961B Hunters Co Shop Road.
