#3 Memorial Fund distributing coasters to honor Tyler Hilinski, help prevent suicide

PULLMAN, Wash. - The #3 Memorial Fund, which seeks to raise awareness around preventing suicide and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, will be distributing 10,000 drink coasters to local bars and restaurants to support those struggling with thoughts of self-harm.

The coasters feature a design on each side, one with an image of wheat, and the other with an image of a young man who appears to be in distress. Both sides display the 800-273-8255 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number, the 741741 Crisis Text Line number, and the url www.suicideispreventable.org

The coasters will be distributed to 45 bars and restaurants in Whitman and Latah counties. The distribution will cover Pullman, Moscow, Colfax, Palouse, Uniontown, Troy, Potlatch, and Genesee.

Bars or restaurants who have not received coasters but would like to can request some by contacting Shelley Calissendorf at email2shelley@yahoo.com.

The #3 Memorial Fund was started on January 17, 2018, the morning after Washington State University quarterback Tyler Hilinski took his own life. The foundation is made up of Pullman business owners, WSU students, and community members.

Shelley Calissendorff, The #3 Memorial Fund’s Chair stated, “It is our sincere hope that these coasters may some day either save a life, or provide someone who is suffering with a resource to turn to that they otherwise would not have been aware of.”  Calissendorff, who is herself a suicide attempt survivor, knows all too well how isolating and hopeless depression can seem and urges people experiencing suicidal thoughts to reach out.  “You are not alone, there is help out there, PLEASE, try hard to be patient and persist!  It WILL get better!”
