SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman was found dead in a car crash in Pend Oreille County after going missing the day before.

The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office was notified that 59-year-old Leslie Grantham missed her flight in Spokane and was not answering her phone on Friday. Attempts to track her vehicle and cell phone were unsuccessful.

Deputies and concerned citizens conducted a search Friday night but were unable to locate Grantham. Pend Oreille County Search and Rescue was activated to assist in the search.

On Saturday at around 7 a.m., patrol deputies responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Fertile Valley Road near Jermain Road. The road is described as being curvy with steep and rural terrain.

The POCSO says the car failed to make a turn and went airborne off the roadway. The vehicle went down an embankment, and the driver was found dead at the scene.

Deputies identified the driver as the missing woman, Leslie Grantham of Newport.

The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash.
