New Tom Petty music video features fan-submitted photos, videos

A new Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers music video released Thursday features classic photos of the late musician along with pictures and videos submitted by fans.

The song, “You and Me,” was first released on the 2002 album, The Last DJ. This version of the song was recorded in 2007, Rolling Stone reported.

The band invited fans to share their favorite memories of the singer, who died in October 2017, to create the music video. Petty would often say, “Without you, there would be no us,” a July 2018 press release said.

The video was posted prior to the release of An American Treasure, a box set of classic Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers music.

According to Rolling Stone, Petty’s wife, Dana, and daughter, Adria, produced the compilation with bandmates Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench and Petty collaborator Ryan Ulyate.

“Everyone involved in this project chose each track with tremendous care and deep respect for the body of work Tom Petty created over the course of 40 years. He also accumulated a wealth of unreleased music in his vaults,” Adria Petty and Dana Petty said in a statement posted by Vents Magazine. “We can’t wait to share with Tom’s fans this musical portrait of an artist who deeply affected our culture and indelibly touched the lives of fans the world over.”

An American Treasure will be released Sept. 28.
