New bill could mean more prison time for pot shop robbers
OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bill in the Washington state legislature would mean more time behind bars for people caught robbing pot shops.
According to the Olympian Newspaper, the new bill would allow judges, but not require them, to add one more year of prison time to the sentence of any person who robs a marijuana store.
At least eight Washington cannabis shops have been robbed at gunpoint in the past six months, including the kidnapping and murder of Cameron Smith who worked at a Cheney pot shop. But some lawmakers say they doubt longer sentences would result in fewer armed robberies.
