Netflix responds to “Bird Box Challenge”
Remember internet challenges like those involving Tide Pods or that Drake song?
Well there’s a new one on the scene – and we’re only two days into the new year. This one involves the new Netflix movie “Bird Box”.
The “Bird Box Challenge” was inspired by one of the main plot points of the film: Basically, there are a bunch of monsters and if you look at them you see your worst fears come to life and that makes you want to kill yourself. It’s dark, I know. But then again, it is a horror movie.
To get around this, characters in the movie wear blindfolds to prevent themselves from inadvertently looking at one of these evil beings.
So of course, people that watched the movie decided to start a new social media craze.
The challenge requires you to do everyday tasks whilst wearing a blindfold. As you can probably assume, this has led to some pretty silly videos of people bumping into things, knocking things over, falling, etc.
Most of the videos are relatively harmless, like one where a man puts on a blindfold and plays with his puppies, or another where a man simply combs his hair. However, Netflix doesn’t want people to take any chances.
On Wednesday, they responded to the fad through a tweet:
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.

It’s something that shouldn’t have to be said, but unfortunately, some people still need to hear it.
