NCAA: No. 5 Auburn upsets No. 2 Kentucky in OT for Final Four berth
No. 5 Auburn upset No. 2 Kentucky in overtime 77-71 Sunday to land a spot in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.
Jared Harper led Auburn with 26 points and P.J. Washington led Kentucky with 28 points.
The Tigers (30-9) will play top-seeded Virginia in the national semifinals in Minneapolis. It will be their first appearance in the Final Four.
Auburn opened the game missing eight of its first nine 3-pointers and trailed midway through the first half, The Associated Press reported.
Kentucky finishes its season 30-7.
Auburn only reached the Elite Eight once before — 33 years ago, the AP said. They also lost to Kentucky twice during the regular season.
The Tigers had lost forward Chuma Okeke to a knee injury during their Sweet 16 game against North Carolina. The hashtag “#DoItForChuma” began trending on social media Saturday, the AP said.
Okeke was rolled to the bench in a wheelchair during the second half and was there to join his teammates in the end-of-game celebration.
