National prescription drug take back day in Hayden
HAYDEN, Idaho — Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is taking back unwanted prescription drugs April 28 at Albertsons in Hayden.
According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs in 2015. A study that year showed that the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends.
That’s why the DEA is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies across the country for Drug Take Back Day.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says it’s an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
People are encouraged to bring their unused pills for disposal to Albertsons at 161 W. Prairie Avenue in Hayden.
The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
