Murder trial set in central Idaho missing man case

A jury trial for a central Idaho man charged with killing his neighbor and burying the body in his backyard is set for January.

The Times-News reports that the second-degree murder trial for 49-year-old Keith Eric Blankenship is set to start January 20 in 5th District Court.

Police say 47-year-old Stephan Michael Romanchuk died after being hit by as many as five rounds from a high-caliber handgun.

Romanchuk’s wife reported her husband missing in January. She said he had lent money to a neighbor and later confronted him over the loan.

The report says after initially denying knowing Romanchuk or receiving money from him, Blankenship told a deputy in May he killed a man in self-defense and buried him in his backyard.
