Moses Lake Native Named As Bishop Of Yakima Diocese

The Catholic church has named Most Rev. Joseph J. Tyson as bishop of the Yakima Diocese.  Tyson takes over for Bishop Carlos A. Sevilla, who has been bishop since 1997.

Tyson was introduced on Tuesday morning, April 12, at Holy Family Parish in Yakima.  The 53-year-old Tyson was born in Moses Lake and grew up in Seattle.  He’s a University of Washington graduate and was ordained in 1989. 

Tyson will be officially installed as Yakima’s bishop on May 31 at a special mass that will be held at Holy Family Parish.

The Diocese of Yakima serves 41 parishes in seven counties.  The counties included are Yakima, Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Kittitas and Klickitat.
