More Black Lives Matter protests planned in Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. — Demonstrators are planning another Black Lives Matter protest on Sunday, June 7.
Facebook events shared by pages like Occupy Spokane have appeared, announcing another peaceful protest in downtown Spokane.
The demonstration is to protest the Minneapolis Police killing of George Floyd, which has become the catalyst for nationwide protests and unrest.
What began as a protest in Spokane on Sunday spiraled into chaos after being hijacked by a rogue group of opportunistic looters and “extremist actors,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A similar protest was carried out on Monday in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, and both remained peaceful.
One event suggests that protests will be carried out “indefinitely,” from 6 p.m.–10 p.m. every Sunday, starting at the Big Red Wagon. Occupy Spokane says they are calling for the “demilitarization of the police,” deescalation and non-lethal force, and decriminalization.
