Michael Allen Appointed To Spokane City Council
SPOKANE — The Spokane City Council is whole again. The council picked Michael Allen Monday night to fill the seat left empty when Mary Verner was elected mayor.
Allen is currently the director of corporate and foundation relations at Eastern Washington University. Before that he was an associate athletic director.
Allen did not attend Monday night’s council meeting. In his application, he said he would only serve out the remainder of the seat’s two year term and will not seek election.
Councilman Steve Corker says Allen brings a new element to the council.
“He’s younger and has some youth and vigor,” Corker said. “We felt he would be a good choice for the city at this time.”
Monday night was Brad Stark’s last meeting on the council after four years. At the meeting, the council also passed the 2008 budget that includes new assistants for council members.
