Melissa Luck

Melissa Luck

Melissa Luck is the Executive News Director at KXLY4, overseeing TV news, digital platforms, promotion and news production.

Melissa's passion for journalism began pretty much at birth. Her father was a television sportscaster and she made her first TV appearance just hours after she was born. She spent most of her childhood in Great Falls, Montana. Melissa is a graduate of Marquette University and is among the university's most passionate and unrealistic basketball fans. She's grateful for the Jesuit education that taught her to put people first and she hopes that philosophy extends to her journalism and leadership.

After completing internships in Milwaukee and Washington, DC, Melissa began her reporting career at KNDU-TV in Kennewick. She came to KXLY in 2002 as a general assignment reporter, covering everything from child serial killer Joseph Duncan to the Seawhawks first Super Bowl. She has also served as the station's weekend anchor and continues to fill in on the anchor desk from time to time.

Her true passions are journalism and journalists' rights. She believes strongly in the protections of the First Amendment and in journalists' responsibilities to be transparent and factual. She's completed training through National Association of Broadcasters and the Poynter Institute and is a frequent contributor for the Radio Television Digital News Association. She loves speaking to college classes about journalism and television news.

Melissa is a passionate Twitter user, a loud Marquette basketball fan, an avid WSU Cougar football fan and a voracious reader. Hit her up for a book recommendation anytime. She's married to KXLY4 Good Morning Northwest anchor Derek Deis. They have two sons, Dylan and Daniel, who are budding storytellers and camera hogs.
