Marine Enforcement Team pulls SUV from Spokane River near Stateline

Deputies pulled an SUV out of the Spokane River, near the Idaho state line on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the Marine Enforcement Team was called to the scene around 2:45 a.m. The SUV was located and found to be unoccupied.

The driver told deputies he stopped at the park for a break. He parked, put the SUV in park, then got out. Deputies said he left the driver’s door open as he walked a short distance away, but then heard the car door close and the sound of his SUV rolling on the gravel.

When he turned around, he saw his car traveling down the road, toward the river and into the water.

Deputies said the driver was adamant he put his car in park, but also said he did not see anyone get out of the car or in the area.
