Marie Shepherd

Marie Shepherd
Marie Shepherd (90) longtime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at her home on May 1, 2020 surrounded by her family and close friends. Marie was born on October 9, 1929 to Mark and Myrtle Swatman in Potlatch, ID. As a child, Marie grew up all over North Idaho before moving to St. Maries. While attending St. Maries High School, she worked at Murphy’s Corner. It was then she met Clarence Shepherd back when his father was sheriff.
On December 13, 1947, Clarence and Marie married in St. Maries, ID. The couple moved to Riggins, ID where Clarence bought a logging truck, and Marie worked as his bookkeeper. When Clarence was drafted into the military to serve overseas, Marie went to work as a telephone operator. After Clarence was honorably discharged, the couple settled in St. Maries, ID. They bought another log truck, and Marie continued to keep his books. This allowed her to stay home and raise her children.
Once the couple retired, they bought a motor home and traveled all over. They road tripped to wherever they could find good golf courses, which usually sent them to California or Arizona. In 1988 Clarence passed away. Marie kept herself busy selling river lots and building her home. Sewing, knitting, and crocheting were some of the hobbies she enjoyed in her younger years. She really enjoyed spending time with her friends whether it was while shopping, traveling, or attending church.
Marie is survived by her children Jyl Andrews of Lakewood, WA and John Shepherd of St. Maries, ID; brother Norman Piper; special friend Marlene Krebs; 4 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence Shepherd; and son Freddy Ray Shepherd.
Because of the current guidelines put in place, a private visitation will be held on May 5, 2020 at Hodge Funeral Home, and Marie will be laid to rest in a private service at Woodlawn Cemetery on May 6, 2020. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be at a later date and time to be announced as soon as the guidelines are lifted.
