Man shot and killed in Chattaroy
CHATTAROY, Wash. — A man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting in Chattaroy Wednesday night.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 27700 N Bear Lake Road around 7 p.m. When deputies arrived at the home, they found a man dead inside. A woman who called 911 told dispatchers she believed a family member had pulled the trigger.
“This appears to be a domestic violence situation, which we’ve talked about plenty of times in the community,” said Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy Mark Gregory. “Most of our homicides are domestic violence related. Unfortunately, this appears to be another example of that.”

At the scene, investigators learned a car was missing from the home. Deputies put out an alert for the stolen vehicle, and Spokane Police located it in Downtown Spokane around 8:45 p.m. Deputies said the shooting suspect, 24-year-old Trystn G. Higgins, was inside the car. Higgins was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building for questioning. The Sheriff’s Office said Higgins faces murder charges.
The Spokane County medical examiner will release the name of the victim.
