Man found dead in downtown Spokane parking lot identified
SPOKANE, Wash. — UPDATE: The man has been identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner as 41-year-old Baptiste Mathias. The cause of death is pending.
The parking lot of a downtown 7-Eleven was the scene of a death investigation Tuesday afternoon. Spokane Police say paramedics were responding to an unrelated call at the store when a black SUV pulled up. The female driver was concerned about her passenger.
Police were called to the 7-Eleven at 2nd Avenue and Division Street after paramedics found a man dead in the passenger seat. Police say it’s too early to determine if the death was a homicide.
“There is no concern for the community right now. Again, this is just a death investigation – not to say a crime has or hasn’t been committed,” said Spokane police Officer John O’Brien.
The female driver is cooperating with detectives, O’Brien said.
