Alert citizens led to the arrest of a mail thief and two associates on Saturday, December 15.

At roughly 11:45 AM, a citizen called to report a silver Ford SUV occupied by three people that was stealing packages off porches in Wenatchee.

As Officers responded to the area to look for the vehicle, another citizen called to report someone from a vehicle with the same description had just stolen a package off of their front porch.

Immediately after that, a third citizen called to report a package being thrown from a window of a vehicle with the same description. The address on the package matched the initial reported theft in the string of three calls. Inside the opened package was mail from several different locations in the city.

Back at the first residence, Officers found the initial caller had taken pictures of the suspect vehicle. Officers recognized the vehicle from prior contacts and headed to a location in the 900 block of Methow Street where the vehicle had been seen before. There, they located the vehicle and could see additional stolen property in plain view inside the vehicle in the rear cargo area.

While on scene, three people came out of a detached garage. Two were arrested on detainers issued by the Washington State Department of Corrections. The third, 27-year-old Denise M. Bolanos of Wenatchee was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant from the Department of Corrections. As Officers continued their investigation, Bolanos was positively identified by the initial witness as the one who took the package from the first porch.

Bolanos will be arrested for two additional charges of Mail Theft today while in custody at Chelan County Regional Justice Center.

Search warrants were served on the vehicle and detached garage. Additional stolen mail was recovered from these locations and will be returned to the owners this week.

Bolanos and other persons contacted during this investigation may face additional charges related to this series of incidents.

This case may not have been solved without the help of observant community members reporting these crimes as they happened. Because of their quick action in calling the department, arrests were made immediately and stolen property recovered.
