Magic Of Storytelling: Local elementary school gifted more than 1,000 books
SPOKANE, Wash. — There is nothing quite like the magic of storytelling.
That is why 4 News Now and Disney have once again teamed up to bring that magic to local kids. This annual program is adding more schools and and sponsors every week.
This week, students at Lidgerwood Elementary School received a special delivery of more than 1,000 books. Starting with kindergartners, students at every grade level had the chance to walk through the gym to pick out their very own book.
TW Clark is the business that funded this opportunity for students at Lidgerwood.
Principal Steve Barnes said some students were picking out the first books they have ever owned.
“They were thrilled,” Barnes said. “It’s like giving them a Christmas present. They were so thrilled to have a book, and the goal is to continue literacy through the summer.”
Barnes said he is grateful to TW Clark, and that it is a “win-win” to be able to get books into kids’ hands.
The Magic of Storytelling campaign is a collaboration between Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney|ABC Television Group to help First Book put brand-new books into the hands of children in communities nationwide. To learn more, and find out if your child’s school is being sponsored, click HERE.
