Looff Carrousel celebrates 110th birthday with $1 rides today
SPOKANE, Wash. — Thursday afternoon Riverfront Park’s famous Looff Carrousel is celebrating a birthday!
The carousel turned 110 last week and today is National Carousel Day, so the park is throwing a party.
From 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, carousel rides will only cost one dollar. There will also be one dollar popcorn, free face painting, and the first 110 carousel riders will get a free cupcake!
The Looff Carrousel debuted in 1909 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the City of Spokane, it’s one of America’s most well-preserved hand-carved wooden carrousels. It features 54 horses, 1 giraffe, 1 tiger, and 2 Chinese dragon chairs and a brass ring to catch.
It can also accommodate wheelchairs.
