Local figure skaters prepare to head to national competition in Wenatchee

Local skaters are squeezing in every last minute practice they can before heading to Wenatchee to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating National Showcase competition next week.

Nearly two dozen skaters, ages 7 to 47, will be representing their teams from Spokane Figure Skating Club and Lake City Figure Skating. Athletes have been working year-round to qualify with their solo numbers and group routines.

Lake City Figure Skating and Spokane Figure Skating Club have joined forces with Lilac City Figure Skating on a Theatre on Ice team called “the Legendary Showstoppers.” For the past six months, there has been no sleeping in for the teammates, as they practice their elaborate performance number at local skating arenas in preparation for the showcase.

The competition will take place from July 31 to August 4.
