Early Satuday morning, Lewiston police officers responded to a large fight in the parking lot of Canters Inn, at 416 Thain Road.

In a release, the Lewiston Police Department says 8-10 people were involved in the altercation around 2:00 a.m. When an officer tried to remove “the primary aggressor,” identified as 22-year-old Kade Mago, he tackled the officer to the ground and caused the officer to hit his head on the pavement.

While Mago and the officer were struggling on the ground, 22-year-old Jai Cee Patterson came over and punched the officer in the face. Backup officers then arrived and subdued Mago and Patterson.

Officers later determined the fight stemmed from an altercation inside the bar, where Patterson allegedly attacked a 47-year-old woman from Clarkston. That woman was left with a fractured nose and an eye injury.

Patterson and Mago were both arrested for felony battery of an officer, and misdemeanors of disturbing the peace and obstructing law enforcement. Patterson was charged with aggravated battery from the initial assault inside the bar. They were both booked into the Nez Perce County Jail.

The officer, who has not been identified by police, was treated on scene by medics and returned to duty after the incident.

The Lewiston Police Department is now trying to identify the other people who were involved. Anyone who witnessed anything or may have information that would be helpful to investigators is asked to call the Lewiston Police Dept. at 208-746-0171.
