Lewis V. Taylor

LEWIS V. TAYLOR (93) was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 1, 1926 to Delvin and Verda Taylor. He passed in Newport, WA on March 1, 2020 at River Mountain Advanced Care.

Lewis moved to Spokane at the age of 7. He attended JJ Browne Elementary and North Central High School. He met and married Vivian Newcomb on August 1 of 1943. Two daughters were born, Pamela in September of 1944 and Beverly in January of 1947. They lived in Spokane until February of 1947 then moved with their 2 ½ yr old and newborn to make their home in Ruby, WA. He worked in the woods and all the older sawmills in Pend Oreille County, at some point in his career. For a time, they lived in Cusick and he was on the Town Council and served as Mayor for several terms. When Louisiana Pacific purchased the mill in Ione, he was hired as the Superintendent/Millwright and they moved to Ione. From there, he took over their mills in Priest River, ID and later moved to Hayden and ran the Chilco mill, where he retired. After retirement, to keep busy, he was certified as a Water and Wastewater systems operator in the neighborhood where they lived in Hayden and he continued with that job for several more years. They enjoyed traveling and spent some time in Arizona in the winters. Shortly after his wife of 73 years passed, he moved back to Newport in 2017 to River Mountain Assisted Living to be closer to his family.

He loved fishing, Amateur Radio, woodworking, gardening and playing music and spending time with family. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or build, either for himself, family, neighbors, or friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian, his parents, sisters Bertha Schrader and Arlene McCoul and brother Gene Taylor, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by daughter Pamela (Dean) McGill, of Spokane, their family: grandchildren Tammy McCoy, Shawn (Tina), Chad (Malia), and Delvin McGill; great-grandchildren, Christopher (Monique) Madison, Sofie, and Talon McCoy, K’Leigh (John) Trickler, Daxius McGill, Nicole (Jordan) Sonneberg, Monic Boulette, Ashley Barton, Jenifer Diaz, and 7 great great grandchildren. He also is survived by daughter Beverly (Bill) Ives, of Usk and their family; grandchildren Jennifer Anderberg and Corey (Tera) Ives of Usk, great-grandchildren Anwyn Anderberg and Amy and Austyn Ives; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Taylor of Ione, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

We would like to thank the staff at the River Mountain Village Assisted Living for their care and support for almost 3 years that he lived there and to the RMV Advanced Care staff and Hospice of Spokane for the loving support for the short time he was there.
