Level 1 evacuation notices in effect near HWY 31

Four miles south of the Washington/Canadian Border along Washington State Highway 31 and Boundary Road is under Level 1 evacuation status.

As of Thursday evening, the McCormick Creek fire in Canada is not moving south toward Washington State. However, this is subject to change depending on fire behavior and weather conditions.

The McCormick Creek fire is currently two miles north of U.S. Border.

There are ten residences in the Level 1 area in addition to the Nelway Port of Entry, Bounday Dam, Gardner Caves, and Crescent Lake Campground.

A level 1 evacuation warning means that residents should be alert of the danger that exists in their area and should get ready to leave in case the fire gets worse.
