Latest numbers: this year’s flu season still much milder than last
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Regional Health District reports 277 people have been hospitalized for the flu in Spokane county so far this season. At this time last season, there had been 491 flu hospitalizations.
The county has also seen less than half the amount of the flu deaths this year than last. As of the latest numbers, 14 people have died from the flu this season. Last year, 31 deaths had been reported by this date.
According to the health district, 74% of people who have been hospitalized for the flu in Spokane county did not have their flu shot. Ninety three percent of those who died were not vaccinated, meaning all but one.
Across the state of Washington, 46 influenza deaths have been reported this season.
