Kootenai deputies arrest four for boating under the influence this weekend
KOOTEANI COUNTY, Idaho — During a second weekend of marine emphasis patrols on the Spokane River, Kootenai County deputies arrested four people for Boating Under the Influence.
The sheriff’s office had a minimum of two teams dedicated to the river during the emphasis. Their focus was speed violations, wake zone violations, noise and other unsafe boating activity.
In total, 121 boat inspections were carried out. Deputies issued 56 citations for boaters who were violating wake zones, speeding, had overcrowded boats, did not have life jackets, boating in restricted areas or otherwise negligently operating their boat.
In addition to the four BUI arrests, deputies reported one boat crash involving a wake board. At least one person was hurt in the crash.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting more emphasis patrols throughout the remainder of the boating season on the Spokane River.
