Know before you go: Catholic Charities “Christmas Bureau” at the Fairgrounds

Catholic Charities Christmas Bureau program has been assisting families in need for over 75 years in and around Spokane. The program’s goal: to give families going through tough times during the holiday season their dignity back.

No parent who walks through the Christmas Bureau doors at the Spokane County Fairgrounds is required to provide proof of income to shop for their child. Nor will any individual be denied meal vouchers and warm clothing items the Bureau provides. They must bring the the proper identification to participate.

For Adults 18 and over (must bring for individuals and parents shopping for children):

Photo ID (copies are acceptable)
Proof of Address – examples include mail sent to your physical address, bills, rental agreements or WA Apple Health statement

For Children 17 years and younger:

Date of Birth or Age
Physical address (must match adult in home – examples include a letter from school, DSHS, daycare, WA Apple Health statement or WIC folder with current WIC check enclosed)

Children do not need to be present for you to shop for them.

Parents can get each child one toy and a book. Teddy bears and stuffed animals from the Spokane Chiefs’ “Teddy Bear Toss” are also handed out. The toys and books are brand new and organized by age and interest.

The Christmas Bureau will be open at the Spokane County Fairgrounds through December 21. It will be closed Sunday, December 16. Shoppers may visit from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lines tend to get long, with some people waiting between two and three hours. Be prepared by dressing warm. If the lines are long you could be waiting outside for part of the time. Live entertainment, coffee, water and bathrooms are accessible.
