Kirk Cousins signs with Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings announced Thursday they signed free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The Vikings made the announcement on Twitter one day after the former Washington Redskins quarterback visited with team officials in Minnesota.

The fully-guaranteed contract is for three years and $84 million, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal makes Cousins the highest-paid player ever.

According to NFL.com, the contract is worth $22.5 million in 2018, $27.5 million for 2019 and $29.5 million in 2020. He also will receive a $3 million signing bonus.

The past two seasons, Cousins played under the Washington Redskins franchise tag and earned $44 million.

In 2017, Cousins passed for 4,093 yards, 27 touchdowns and rushed for four more touchdowns.

Cousins takes over for Case Keenum, who signed with the Denver Broncos, and Sam Bradford, who inked a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Vikings finished the 2017 season with a 13-3 record, winning the NFC North.
