Katy Perry calls Coeur d’Alene ‘Heaven on Earth’ as American Idol auditions contestants there

The golf course at the Coeur d’Alene Resort looked unrecognizable this weekend as American Idol took over!

If you’ve ever watched the show before, you’ve seen a lot contestants waiting on long lines, in hotels and tents, but not here. Contestants got in their last minute rehearsals on boats!

That’s where we found Kate Plaisted from Eagle, Idaho. Like the other 35 contestants auditioning, Kate has been through 2 rounds of auditions already with producers for the show. This round decides whether or not contestants get the coveted golden ticket to Hollywood.

“I am so excited and when Ryan Seacrest walked by I freaked a lot more than I thought I would and there were some tears but hopefully I can calm myself down for the next time I see him!”

Yes, Ryan Seacrest is in Coeur d’Alene.

He said, “we have found some good talent in there so far.”

He didn’t come alone. American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are all in town, and pretty happy to be here.

“Heaven on Earth!” said Perry.

Richie added, “we are going to request that we do all the shoot from here ’cause this, this is the calmest we’ve ever been on a shoot ever!”

Before contestants had the chance to sing their hearts out to them, they met with Seacrest for some last minute tips.

“I just tell them if they make it through their parents can toss me around because there is a lot anxiety going through that door.”

Seacrest has been with American Idol since the get-go. Here’s what he thinks the judges are looking for this season.

“They are looking for somebody that is unique, and someone that walks in and just has a statement to make with their voice.”

So does Coeur d’Alene have it?

Luke Bryan said, “all we can do is base it off the other places we’ve been and right now Coeur d’Alene is showing up.”

Perry added, “Coeur d’Alene is in the lead!”
