Junior Bloomsday is back this Saturday!
SPOKANE, Wash. — Junior Bloomsday is back on Saturday, April 20!
The popular children’s race will take place just two weeks before the Lilac Bloomsday Run on May 5, and invites kids in the 3rd through 7th grade to participate.
The race will be hosted at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds, starting and finishing at the Avista baseball stadium. The course is 1.25 miles long, with a finish line at home plate on the baseball diamond. Runners have been given a wave time between 9 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
Prizes will be offered to all Junior Bloomsday participants in the form of a T-shirt, Silverwood Park pass, a bracelet, and a free Papa Murphy’s Pizza.
Entrance fees are $20, with proceeds going to benefit Active4Youth, a non-profit organization working to promote exercise in elementary schools in the Spokane region.
Junior Bloomsday originated in the 1980s, taking place at Joe Albi Stadium. It was wildly popular, bringing in thousands of participants. Following a hiatus in the 90s, the Lilac Bloomsday Association has re-launched the iconic race.
Marmot March, Bloomsday’s other children’s race, will take place on Saturday, May 4, and is available for kids 3rd grade and younger.
