Job Opening: Spokane Valley City Council Position 5

Former State Senator Bob McCaslin, who spent 30-years in the State Senate, passed away earlier this year on March 13th. His state senate seat was passed on to Jeff Baxter, but his position 5 city council seat for the Spokane Valley remains empty.

The City of Spokane Valley is still accepting applications [.PDF] from any individual who wishes to apply until April 19th. They must be received by the City Clerk, Chris Bainbridge, located at 11707 E. Sprague Ave., Suite 106, no later than 4:00 pm. on that day in order to be considered.

As of now, the City Clerk has only received one application and that application belongs to John Baldwin, who was unable to attend his own interview on March 29th for City Council Position 3, previously held by Rose Dempsey.

The applicants to be interviewed will be selected on April 26th, during an open City Council meeting and then from there they will interview those selected applicants during another open City Council meeting on May 10th. If the applicant is selected for an interview, they will be notified in advance.

The day of appointment will be at the following City Council meeting on May 17th. The appointed interim City Council member will remain on the Council until a new member is selected by voters in this year’s November election.

To apply for the position, the only requirement by the City of Spokane Valley and state law requires a filled out application and a minimum of one year residence in Spokane Valley while being a registered voter. Those interested do not need to file with the Public Disclosure Commission, unless they want to officially run for the position for the November Election.
