“It would have been the end of him” Spokane Valley man confronts armed burglar
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A burglar armed with a knife found himself staring down the barrel of a loaded gun in Spokane Valley this week.
Deputies said the homeowner found 40-year-old John Cravens inside his garage early Monday morning near Locust Street and Broadway Avenue. Even with a gun pointed at his head, deputies said Craven decided to pull out a knife and make his own threats.
The burglary victim, who asked not to be identified, said Cravens started swinging the knife while moving toward him. The man said he was prepared to kill Cravens and protect his own family.
“If he would have gotten any closer to me, it would have been the end of him,” the homeowner said.
He fired two shots from his .22 pistol toward a maple tree in his backyard to send a warning.
“I wasn’t going to get hurt, I wasn’t going to let anybody get hurt. If I had to do it, I would have done it.”
The man said Cravens then dropped his knife and took off. Deputies responded along with a K9 which tracked Cravens to some bushes across the street.
The homeowner said he’s glad no one was injured and that he had his gun close by. He hopes Cravens will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.
“Another one off the streets,” he said.
