Investigators say Coeur d’Alene strip mall fire likely accidental
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — After conducting their preliminary investigation into a fire that tore through a strip mall Wednesday Coeur d’Alene fire investigators believe the blaze was accidental in nature.
While the investigation hasn’t found the exact cause, they believe the fire started in a rear storeroom of the Good Samaritan Thrift Shop. The fire eventually spread to the rest of the building, destroying a hair salon and pawn shop along with the thrift shop.
Engineers will be brought in later this month to confirm the fire department’s conclusion.
The investigation, and the property, has been turned over to the property owner’s insurance company.
The total cost of the loss from the building and three businesses is not known.
